- Berger's writings on photography prove very well his attention and care for thinking. There must be a reason why we enjoy reading his writings so much: Thought is never a gesture, arrogance or intellectual exercise for him. As a young child, looking with instinctive curiosity seems to have gained adult discipline. It is a truth that draws us in, coming from the fact that it identifies itself sincerely and compassionately with the object it looks at. Secondly, that aesthetic criterion that Berger simply defines: Does this work contribute to people learning their social rights and demanding their rights, does it encourage them to do so? These articles have another feature: The review is never just a criticism and questioning for Berger, it always tells us a visible or invisible story about the photograph. He is also a storyteller.This compilation, prepared by Geoff Dyer, was designed as a special edition for photography and also includes chapters from Berger's previous books. In addition, there are texts among them that were written for exhibitions or as presentations or epilogues in catalogues, but were not included in any of his books.
