The Garmin Dash Cam Tandem has a function where it will record audio and video and can be controlled by an associated app or voice command. The unit responds to “OK Garmin”. The parking mode feature monitors your car’s surroundings while the car is parked and the engine is not running and saves to the MicroSD memory card when the external-facing camera detects motion, either visually or physically with its built-in motion detector. However, for parking mode to function, a separate cable kit must be purchased. The device does not have a battery so must be connected to power to operate. There is no monthly charge for the app, and the app supports up to four devices at a time. The product is detachable, and there is a separate file for front and rear recordings. The camera will continue to record until the memory card is full, at which point it will begin overwriting the oldest footage with newly recorded footage. While many customers were satisfied with the picture quality, some experienced issues with powering on the device, connecting to the app, and random shut-offs. The app was reported to be slow and outdated and required Wi-Fi connection rather than mobile data. Some customers had issues with the magnet holding the camera in place, and the device did generate a noticeable amount of heat.
