I bought this for my back trunk 2006 xc90 volvo . it too big, does this fit for my truck ?
Answer: I bought this for xc90 2008 for the front hood. They fit and replaced the previous which could not keep the hood up. This worked well but keep the hood high. So you have to open carefully in low ceiling places to prevent scratching the paint. -

How do I compress the length of strut? It does not fit with the extended length.
Answer: I suspect you have the wrong strut for the application or you don’t have the hood open enough.....they should install without compressing -

Answer: Strange question ....these are typically specified by application. If you have an xc90 these will certainly lift and keep your hood open. -
Question:
I need it to compress about a cm to install, both struts I received seem to be locked up...are they defective?
Answer: They are not locked up - the amount of force needed to compress them is more than you can provide with just your hands. You might be able to compress them by holding the cylinder with both hands and pressing the shaft end against the ground. I doubt you will be able to keep it from extending though. The ones I installed on a 2008 XC90 just popped in with little effort. -
