Petersen Games Cthulhu Wars is a massive area control game that is straightforward and easy to learn. It's played out round after round with each player taking a single action until either a player reaches 30 “Doom” points or the “Instant Death” section on the Ritual of Annihilation Track. The game is beautiful with great miniatures, colorful board, and sturdy and thick tokens. The rule book is comprehensive but surprisingly easy to read. However, the battle dice are just regular dice and the turns are sometimes dull, especially when players have already used up all their power. The game components come in a large and hefty box that is very durable but has a poor space allocation mechanism. The game is best played with 4 or more players, and each faction has a different play style, which adds to the replayability of the game.
