- HDPE is a polyethylene thermoplastic made from petroleum. It is sometimes called alkathene or polythene when used for pipes. With a high strength-to-density ratio, HDPE is used in the production of plastic bottles, corrosion-resistant piping, geomembranes, and plastic lumber. HDPE is commonly recycled. You are buying ONE piece of NATURAL POLYETHYLENE HDPE 1/4 x 8 x 12. This material is natural HDPE and is non-textured. This version of HDPE is softer than other textured versions of HDPE and can scratch easily. Light markings or lines may be commonly found on the surface due to the processes used by the manufacturer. All of our dimensions are NOMINAL. There is a tolerance of (+/-)1/8 or 0.118. This material has unfinished saw cut edges.
